• A Drollic Dreamer Tutorial

  • The Drollic Dreamer is very simple to use. Simply enter a word or phrase into the text box, click "Dream" and let Dreamer do the rest. In just a few moments, you will be presented with a completely unique dream. If you like it enough, you can submit it to the Dreamer Blog for others to see. Or, you can try again until you get something you like. And Dreamer is absolutely free.

The image below is what you see when you first run Dreamer. As you can see, you have some options for customizing your dream. These options are described below.

  • The Image Source Chooser. This is where Dreamer will search for images when composing your Dream. Currently, the choices are:
    • FlickR: A very cool site for hosting photos.

    • Yahoo: An image specific version of the mighty Yahoo Search.

    • Mixture: A combination of both FlickR and Yahoo.

    • Surprise Me: One of the above three, randomly selected.
  • Maximum Images. This specifies the maximum number of images Dreamer can use when composing your Dream. Please note that this is simply a maximum amount, and Dreamer may use fewer images than what you specify.

  • Style. This is the composition style Dreamer will use when composing your dream. There are several choices:
    • Structured: The most basic style, consisting only of tiled images.

    • Selective: In this style, Dreamer will try and find the "interesting" parts of the images before fitting them together into a composition.

    • Chaos: In this style, Dreamer will randomly place all the images. The images can and will overlap.

    • Interactive: For those of you who want total control, this style is for you. After the images are downloaded, you will be presented with an interactive display which will allow you to position and resize the images exactly as you wish.

    • Surprise Me: One of the above, randomly selected.
  • Phrase Entry. This is the place where you enter your words or phrase to compose your dream. Enter anything you wish.
  • Statistics. Here's the meaning of each stat:
    • Dreams submitted worldwide: The total number of user submissions. A submission is when a user submits her dream to the Dreamer Blog. Dream submission is a feature of Dreamer and it allows you to share your Dreams with the world.

    • Your submissions: Your total submissions to the Dreamer Blog.

    • Your rank: This shows how you rank against everyone else using Dreamer. It's based upon total submissions. If your rank is 5, that means there are only four people who have submitted more dreams than you. This rank is calculated hourly.
